Even down to old age, all my people shall prove
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love.
And then, when gray hair shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs shall they still,
Like lambs shall they still,
Like lambs shall they still in my bosom be borne.
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love.
And then, when gray hair shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs shall they still,
Like lambs shall they still,
Like lambs shall they still in my bosom be borne.
verse 6 of "How Firm A Foundation"
Once my Dad saw a picture of the Savior carrying a black lamb. Many times since he told me that he felt like that black lamb. (Of course, once I lovingly told him that he actually enjoyed being a black sheep:-)
Today when I was singing my all-time favorite hymn, "How Firm A Foundation", this verse made me think of my Dad. I'll always remember those gray temples that I kissed so many times in the last few weeks of his life, the whole experience that proved Heavenly Father's sovereign and unchangeable love, and the knowledge that once Dad's life was finally complete, he was indeed borne in the bosom of our Savior.
Thanks Dad, for making the hymn sweeter still.
Beautifully written Sara! Since you shared your goal of memorizing this song as your Personal Progress moment in YW's, in the weeks since, this hymn has brought me much comfort as I navigate through some recent storms in life. I too have always loved this song but now I see it as a way to rejoice in our trials. So thank you! Thank you for your eternal perspective and your sweet testimony. You bless the lives of all those that know you and love you.
ReplyDeleteHi Sara, so I realize that we are linked to your blog, so ignore my nagging in the email I just sent you. I love your post. I think hymns are so perfect. I loved the picture of your dad and then of his casket. You are doing a great job of adding pictures to your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for making me cry tonight! Hadn't had one for a while. It was time. The gray temples were what got me. If he had a nickle for how many times he was kissed by you, me and mom on those gray temples-he would be a rich man in heaven! He IS rich having such an incredible daughter like you! Thanks for that!
